In cases relating to family law, such as divorce and child custody, judges do their best to make a decision that is fair and based on the unique facts and circumstances of the case. They have an incredibly difficult job, especially when young children are involved, and they understand that their decisions will have immense ramifications to the parties and their children.  Most often, even if one or both sides disagree with the decision, the ruling is based in the facts of the case and the law.
